The calculator uses the following formula to determine rainwater collection potential:
Collection (gal) = Roof Area (sq ft) × Rainfall (in) × Runoff Coefficient × (1 - Evaporation Rate) × 0.623
Where 0.623 converts cubic feet of water to gallons. The evaporation rate accounts for water loss between rainfall events.
