Dog Aging Patterns
Dogs age differently based on their size and breed. Smaller breeds tend to live longer than larger breeds. The first two years of a dog's life count more in human years than subsequent years.
- Small dogs (under 20 lbs): Age about 15 human years in the first year, 9 in the second year, and about 4-5 for each year after.
- Medium dogs (21-50 lbs): Age about 15 human years in the first year, 10 in the second year, and about 5-6 for each year after.
- Large dogs (51-90 lbs): Age about 15 human years in the first year, 12 in the second year, and about 7-8 for each year after.
- Giant dogs (over 90 lbs): Age about 12 human years in the first year, 12 in the second year, and about 9-10 for each year after.
Cat Aging Patterns
Cats mature quickly in their first two years, then age more steadily. Indoor cats typically live longer than outdoor cats.
- First year: 15 human years
- Second year: +9 human years (total 24)
- Each subsequent year: +4 human years
Some breeds like Siamese and Burmese tend to live longer, while larger breeds like Maine Coons may have slightly shorter lifespans.
Rabbit Aging Patterns
Rabbits age very quickly in their first year, then slow down. Their lifespan is typically 8-12 years.
- 6 months: Equivalent to a 16-year-old human
- 1 year: Equivalent to a 21-year-old human
- Each subsequent year: +6 human years
